Treatments for demodectic mange on pug puppy. Natural and other home remedies? What really works?
I have a 4 month old female black pug I brought home on 6/30/07. She started getting small white bumps on top of her head then losing her hair in small patches. The vet did a skin scrape and diagnosed Demodectic Mange. She recommended to not treat it unless it got a lot worse. She did give me a benzoyl peroxde shampoo but said that it would make her skin very dry. She started to get another patch of missing hair so I used the shampoo as directed but it doesn’t seem to be getting better and she’s always scratching herself. I don’t want her to be uncomfortable and I don’t want her to lose any more hair either. I want what’s best for her and I’ve been reading up on home remedies. Motor oil seems to be the worst thing you can use. Others incl. pine-sol mixed with pantene shampoo or garlic powder mixed with goldenseal powder and olive oil. has anyone tried any of these or have any other ideas? Don’t want to use the harsh shot that’s used for cattle – imedex? or something like that
I would listen to your vet. All puppies have demodex (in low numbers) and actually contract it from their mother while nursing. Some puppies just get more than others. If she’s begun her vaccinations recently then it has weekend her immune system enough for the demodex to take over. Just follow your veterinarian’s instructions. It’ll take a little while (few weeks to months) for it to clear up. The hair will grow back eventually and she will itch for a while. I promise it’ll clear up though and I know it’s not pretty to look at and you don’t want your pup to suffer. There are some cremes that you could use and rub directly on the skin or some antibiotics. you can buy goodwinol.or home remedy to try is half pinesol brand and half pantene hair conditioner and apply,or 1part sulfur 1 part calamin 1 part alove vera and gallon of water apply.you will need to do every day for at least a week,does not work on all cats it depends on how bad,if dont work take to vets
