what is the mange and how do i get rid of it on my dogs and puppies?

I’ve had them dipped and gave them meds from the vet and no improvement. I’ve had to have 2 put to sleep because I could not get rid of the mange, no matter how I treated them.

Mange is a skin disease caused by parasitic mites. There are two common types (demodectic and sarcoptic) and a few others which are less common.

You get rid of them by having the vet take a skin scraping and identify the type of mites, and prescribe treatment. If the initial treatment does not work, you TAKE THEM BACK. Demodectic mange especially is very hard to get rid of, because it accompanies an immune system that is surpressed. It can take months and months of consistent treatment to get rid of it, and the dog can relapse later on when subjected to stress or illness. Any dog that produced a puppy with demodectic mange or has had symptomatic demodectic mange themselves should be altered and not bred as there’s a genetic component to the immune system impairment. Sarcoptic mange is generally easier to treat, but it’s HIGHLY contagious to other dogs, and to people.

So, what I’m saying is: You need to take them all back to the vet for further treatment. If you don’t feel your current vet is treating them adequately, use a different vet. But get them help, It’s very itchy and painful.

Can my cats get mange from a dog that was at my house?

This girl i know told me she was bringing her dog over, she brings it here, has it on my bed and all over in my room. then tells me she thinks it has mange. i have other cats in the house and im worried about the areas the dog was laying and whatnot. are my cats at risk here? what precautions should i take to make sure they dont get mange?

You really don’t know what the dog has, so you don’t know if your cats are at risk or not. There area certain types of mange that cats can get (sarcoptic??). Can you get Revolution in Singapore? That is an off-label treatment for many types of bugs – it’s listed as preventing bites from fleas, mites, mosquitoes, and certain internal parasites, but is also effective against ticks and other ‘bugs’. I’d also be washing (in very hot water) my bedspread and bedding :( If you can’t get Revolution, ask the vet for advice about what sorts of dips you can get for your cats. This is really a case of prevention, but it’s a whole lot easier to prevent potentially communicable diseases than to treat them in a multi-cat household after the fact.

I need a low cost treatment for my dogs mange. Anyone know of a natural cure?

I have spent in Excess of $900 at two different vets. I live in a big city with the best care. I am going at a different angle because I am worried that she will become Toxic from meds. Please Dont Answer if you need to be Critical. We adore our pet.
This Is DEMODICTIC mange

Unfortunately, Demodectic mange is the worst one, as it is caused by the parasites that already live in all of us. It usually comes out because of a weakened immune system, which can be caused by a malnourished mom, or removing the puppies from mom too soon. Please do not take your dog off the vet meds. It takes a long time for the symptoms of this kind of mange to go away, and if you pull the meds now, you might have a nasty recurrence.
I have a dog who I adopted at three months-she had mange so bad she was completely bald. We gave her all the meds for 7 months, and she is now completely a beauty queen. My vet gave me an immune system supplement vitamin to boost her immunities. It is only available from a vet and is called Duralactin. It is made from mothers milk and has mom’s immunities in it. It strengthened her immune system and enabled her to heal much faster than normal, and she has no bald patch recurrence at all.
You also need to know that this type of mange can recurr at any time during your dogs life, and you will need to be on the lookout for it.

My 6 month old labradoodle has demodectic mange. She’s gotten 1 mitaban dip so far, and her next appointment

is April 14th. I’ve been researching on mitaban dips, and a lot of sites say that they don’t work, or that they’re toxic. My pup’s about 20 lbs, and I adopted her in very poor conditions. Are there any alternatives?

There’s this one site that helps cure demodectic mange, but I’m not sure if it’s legitimate or not. Has anyone tried it before?

http://petsbestrx.com/mange/?gclid=CILI95KqvpICFRwsagodDVy2bg#mightyvites

The dips are pretty expensive each time I go in, and they say she needs maybe 4-6 of them before she’s cured. I’m not sure if it’s worth it if it’s not a guarantee success, or if it will make her worse.

Thanks in advance for your help.
here are some pictures of her.

Mitaban dips DO work (trust me!) and they are non-toxic. If Mitaban dips were toxic vet offices would refuse to use them. We are there to help the animal, not poison it.

I checked out the product in the link you provided. Personally, I have never heard of it before now. If I were you, I would leave her treatment in the hands of your veterinarian. God forbid if she ever had a reaction or what not… they are there!

ADD: Betta has a wonderful point(!!)… Ivermectin *can* and has been used to help treat mange. The one “downside” we have seen at our hospital is the use of an ivermectin (or Interceptor, which is similar to an ivermectin) takes A LOT longer then the dip for results, however, you may feel more comfortable going that route. It is also quite a bit more pricey!

ADD2: She is oh-so cute!!! Her face is absolutely precious! I wish her a very quick recovery! Good for you for adopting!

Dear Trublupi,The moron that propagates that old wives tale on how to cure or rid a pet of mites should be made to use the toxic mix on himself. DON’T even try to formulate such a mixture as the inggredients that you can purchase otc are close, they are not chemicaly compat. Here’s a sure fire cure for mites, if you’re sure that’s what pet has: Top shelf baby shampoo,J&J no more tears is good. Bathe pet in tepid water and using a wash towel, lather, rinse, lather and rinse. Let pet dry for an hour or so then using a Stridex pad or sim. massage areas and outward about an inch or two.Make sure pets infected area is saturated. An hour or so later use a water based aloe GEL,not oil based, and gently massage into affected area. You may have to do this a few more times,3 days apart, but this should help you. Oh, make sure you sanitize pets sleeping and workout area.Best Wishes and GoodLuck Trublupi

has anyone heard of a home remedy called Maui Bowie mange buster?

The remedy is to help mange on dogs and cats its supposed to kill the mites that cause mange .

Please please take your dog to the vet – there are many supposed home remedies for curing things out there fore dogs and cats – but some are downright harmful/dangerous/fatal to animals. The vet can discuss safe methods of managing or getting rid of mange.

Red mange treatment?! PLEASE help!?

We have a 10 week old boxer mix pup that had a rash on his head. We took him to the vet, and they decided that it was red mange. They gave us the meds to dip him in. We brought him home and dipped him yesterday. Today, it looks WORSE! What’s happening? I plan on calling the vet tomorrow, because they aren’t in tonight, because it is so late. PLEASE HELP!

Your vet must not have explained mange to you very well at all. Mange mites damage the hair follicles and all the hair dies and falls out. Just because the mites are killed by the dip doesn’t mean your dog will miraculously be cured. The hair takes quite a bit of time to grow back. Your dog’s hair will continue to fall out and he will look worse until the new hair grows back in.
You really should call your vet and get a good explanation of mange.

Is there anything i can do to treat demodectic mange other then going to the vet?

Democidosis requires medication to treat. If the dog is under stress, it is more likely to develop democidosis, which is why it is so often seen in puppy mills. You also need to have your dog spayed/neutered. Hormones will only create more stress, and worsen the disease. Also, democidosis is hereditary and should not be passed on to future generations. Make sure you are feeding the dog a good food, and always make sure he/she is parasite free. Keep all vaccines up to date, and keep your dog healthy. Democidosis supresses the immune system. More often than not, skin infections will appear, and your dog will need medications for this. You will have to see the vet, as this is a serious medical condition and needs to be addressed immediately.

Treat your dog or cat with Demodectic Mange using PetsBestRx, a safe & non-toxic treatment for any types of mange without going to the Vet.
