I have chickens dogs & cats. My dogs have mites (mange). Is there a safe product to use with all these pets?
I think the mites came from the chickens. Is Sevin dust safe to use on the yard & pets? Or is there something better?
Sevin dust if you read the label is for chickens as I recall.A powder that you would not want your cats & dogs to be inhaling.
A vet generally takes a scraping to determine what type of mange to treat. You need to know exactly what your animal has in order to correctly medicate.
Many products are species specific and toxic to other animals.
I certainly would not use the dust on domestic pets.Call your vet is the general and safe answer.

a pet I rehomed gave my pet sarcoptic mange?
Ok my ex boyfriend couldn’t take care of his dog so I took her.
I tried to rehome her. I never could find a good home for her.
Well back in January I found her a home I thought. They seemed to love her and she stayed with them until about 4 weeks ago.
They called and said they couldn’t take care of her anymore. So we went and got her.
Well as soon as we got her home she was itching and scratching furiously. We assumed fleas (we saw fleas on her) so we treated her with frontline immediately and gave her children’s benadryl.
Then my cat started itching so I was like damnit now the cat has fleas!!!
..Well..they were both still itching even after flea meds. So we took the dog to the vet.
Sarcoptic mange.
We took the cat to the vet.
Sarcoptic mange.
I am furious now. Those people gave me back a dog with the mange that has now infested my cat.
I really want to say something to them.. should I? Or should I just let it go?
I can’t prove they gave it to her other than the fact she was itching furiously within hours of us getting her home from their house, and NONE of my cats had ANY fleas, itching, rashes, hair loss, ticks, or anything at all until we brought back the dog.
You should confront her previous owners in person with the fact that the dog had Sarcoptic mange and make them pay for the flea treatment, vet and any thing else you had to pay for because of that for both you cat and dog.Good luck

What steps can I take for my cat so that his "mange" does not come back ?
He has recovered from a severe mange that he must have got from my dog.
His skin is back to normal after the vet injected him and I have been putting some ointment behind his back of his ears.
What can I do to make sure that my cat does not get mange again ?
The vet told me it is demoxic or something like that name kind of Mange.
Demodectic mange is caused by the demodex mite. This mite naturally lives in or near hair follicles on all mammals. A flare up, such as the condition mange usually occurs when the host’s immune system is compromised or they have a sensitivity to the mites.
The demodectic mange is not as common in cats as it is in dogs. Normally the mite that causes mange in cats is the sarcoptic “scabies” mite. The demodex mite is long and narrow (cigar shaped) and the sarcoptic mite is round or oval. Both are microscopic. The vet will usually do a skin scraping to correctly identify the mite.
Recommendations for preventing a future breakout is to thoroughly wash bedding (or discard if unwashable). Another recommendation from the sites below is to use Revolution. Revolution is available at your vet by prescription. It is a good product to also fight fleas, ear mites, and intestinal parasites.
Fighting mange can be a lot of work, I hope you don’t have to again.

puppy has sarcoptic mange and there’s other dog in the house. What to do?
We recently rescued a stray puppy without realizing that she had sarcoptic mange. She did had several interactions with my dog for the 2 days before we brought her in to the vet. The vet gave the infected puppy injection and antibiotics and we’ve since confined the puppy to her crate away from our dog, making sure they have no direct contact. Now i’m worried that my dog would be infected as well. Could i use revolution on my dog now? Would it help eliminate the chances of my dog getting mange?? Or we would have to wait for 3-4weeks before bringing my dog for scrap test??
The vet simply told me to monitor my dog for 3 weeks to see she has symptoms of mange and told me to bring the infected puppy in after 2 wks for review again. Unfortunately, the vet did not give us any bathing solution or ivermectin for the infected puppy.
As for the whole family, we take extra caution when handling the infected puppy, washing our hands with disinfectant after every contact with her. So far, no one suffering from terrible skin itchiness.
She has to have more than antibiotics to kill the mites. Did he give you a bathing solution or ivermectin for the dog? Antibiotics are simply for the infection caused by scratching.
The answer is simply to treat both dogs. It’s just like when dogs get fleas in a family. You treat them all. If one dog in the home has worms, you treat them all. You just do it all at once so it doesn’t pass back and forth.

Treatment for mange?!?!?!?
I think my puppy might have mange. Can people get it from dogs because I’m itching now.
And also, my son had chicken pox and I got him some oatmeal bath stuff that got rid of it. Do you think that would help my dog too?
I’m taking him to the vet tomorrow, but I need some advice for now.
Oatmeal shampoo does help with itching in a dog. I have a dog that is allergic to fleas and it helps him. So if you have the oatmeal shampoo it will not hurt to try it. I know how painful it can be to watch them itch so badly and not know what to do. I hope the shampoo gives him some relief. Good Luck.

Can outside cats/dogs get mange in the dead of winter?
I have some ferrel cats that I feed. I have noticed that one of them is losing some fur back by his butt. New fur is growing in. Someone said it was mange. Can mange live on cats and dogs in the dead of winter? What am I going to do if it is mange? I can’t catch this cat, he’s wild! He sure isn’t going to sit still for a bath!
I think that it can. Mange is caused by a mite, so just like having fleas, it would probably continue into winter time. With ferals there’s not much you can do except trap them and try and find a vet that will provide them care. Not all vets will treat ferals. You might call the local shelters and vets and see if they know of anything that you can do. Maybe something you can put in the food?
It could also be where they had an abscess or bite. Cats usually lose the fur around this area, and then it grow back in. Without actually seeing the area on the cat it’s hard to say what it might be.
I think my dog has mange.. are my other two dogs at risk of catching it?
Yesterday I noticed my dog’s fur really think on an area near her tail, at first I though it was from mabe sitting on the concrete. With a closer look today, I noticed it had red bumps on the area and she also had the same thing on her side and her font leg.. I will be taking her to the vet in the morning ASAP. Should I keep her in a kennle away from my other two dogs also?
That sounds more like fleas or ant bites than mange.
Demodectic mange tends to start on the face, and sarcoptic mange starts in lightly haired areas like the elbows or edges of the ears.
