Can my cats get mange from a dog that was at my house?

This girl i know told me she was bringing her dog over, she brings it here, has it on my bed and all over in my room. then tells me she thinks it has mange. i have other cats in the house and im worried about the areas the dog was laying and whatnot. are my cats at risk here? what precautions should i take to make sure they dont get mange?

You really don’t know what the dog has, so you don’t know if your cats are at risk or not. There area certain types of mange that cats can get (sarcoptic??). Can you get Revolution in Singapore? That is an off-label treatment for many types of bugs – it’s listed as preventing bites from fleas, mites, mosquitoes, and certain internal parasites, but is also effective against ticks and other ‘bugs’. I’d also be washing (in very hot water) my bedspread and bedding :( If you can’t get Revolution, ask the vet for advice about what sorts of dips you can get for your cats. This is really a case of prevention, but it’s a whole lot easier to prevent potentially communicable diseases than to treat them in a multi-cat household after the fact.

stray cat with mange?what should i do?

a stray cat has been coming to my house, ive been feeding it because it was starving , i think it has mange, its fur is all messed up and its eyes are weird…i havent touched it but i have 2 cats of my own that go outside and they fight with it.what should i do?i dont want it to be put to sleep…is their a cure for mange?

although there are treatments for mange, you cannot be sure that it has mange until you take it in to a vet. Do your cats have their vaccinations up to date? have you recently had them checked out by your vet? when you say fighting, is it just some scratches or bite wounds as well? If this cat is a stray, call the local humane society to pick it up, if it is sick, it needs to be cared for, and if nobody is willing to care for it, it deserves a humane death instead of being hit by a car, chewed up by a dog or die of feline leukaemia or infectious peritonitis by itself under a bush or deck slowly. If you can trap it and get it looked after you may find that it is not a bad cat, just simply an unkempt one and it might learn to live with your cats. In the end, don’t trust it has ‘just mange’, it may carry any number of other diseases, that may not only be dangerous to your cats but perhaps to dogs or humans also, like rabies for example. I don’t like to see these cats be euthanized either, but it is better to have a humane death, than a miserable life and suffer for some irresponsible human’s actions. You never know, it might be tattooed or microchipped and then you can try to locate the owner. Good Luck to you and your cats with this situation.

a pet I rehomed gave my pet sarcoptic mange?

Ok my ex boyfriend couldn’t take care of his dog so I took her.
I tried to rehome her. I never could find a good home for her.

Well back in January I found her a home I thought. They seemed to love her and she stayed with them until about 4 weeks ago.
They called and said they couldn’t take care of her anymore. So we went and got her.

Well as soon as we got her home she was itching and scratching furiously. We assumed fleas (we saw fleas on her) so we treated her with frontline immediately and gave her children’s benadryl.

Then my cat started itching so I was like damnit now the cat has fleas!!!

..Well..they were both still itching even after flea meds. So we took the dog to the vet.

Sarcoptic mange.

We took the cat to the vet.

Sarcoptic mange.

I am furious now. Those people gave me back a dog with the mange that has now infested my cat.

I really want to say something to them.. should I? Or should I just let it go?

I can’t prove they gave it to her other than the fact she was itching furiously within hours of us getting her home from their house, and NONE of my cats had ANY fleas, itching, rashes, hair loss, ticks, or anything at all until we brought back the dog.

You should confront her previous owners in person with the fact that the dog had Sarcoptic mange and make them pay for the flea treatment, vet and any thing else you had to pay for because of that for both you cat and dog.Good luck

Cat Mange?

I have 2 kittens and a full grown female. They have hair loss on their body, head and paws. It’s not really that bad, sometimes you cant even tell some hair is missing. They do scratch themselves but not to much. On the adult her hair comes right off and leaves hair everywhere. but other then the hair loss the cats look fine and healthy
Does it sound like mange or possibly ring worms?
I’m thinking about using Lyme Dip. Would that help?

DO NOT use lyme dip on a kitten!!! Do NOT use any over the counter lyme dip on any cat EVER. What you describe could be any number of things and needs to be evaluated by a licensed veterinarian. Call your vet!

Can I get mange from my cat?

I dont know yet if she has it, but I think she does. I’m taking her to the vet tomorrow and if she has it can I be tested for it too? I heard it can be passed on to humans and she basically sleeps on my face every night.

Yes, it is possible but rare. Mange is an irritation of the skin, primarily resulting in hair loss and sometimes including itching and inflammation, all of which are caused by microscopic mites. Mange is most commonly found in dogs and other canines, but it can occur in other domestic and wild animals, and occasionally in humans.

Many times what looks like mange on an animal turns out to be an allergic or bacterial problem.

Good Luck.

IVM liqiud for treatment of mange mites?

I bought a Pit Bull puppy. She is 6 months now. When I bought her I noticed 1 little spot on her head missing hair. I thought it was just from the pups playing rough. She has been to the vet for shots and spaying. I noticed another spot where she was losing hair. I asked the vet and he said it was common with the breed and to keep an eye on it. It got worse and I took her back to have it scraped and checked under a microscope. It turned out she has the non-contagious mange mites. I was given IVM liquid to give to her. My vet is closed today and I would just call and ask them. Anyways, she has diareaha real bad now. Does anyone here know the side effects of this medicine?

Ivermectin is a good medicine for mange and widely prescribed. Diarrhea is a side effect and needs to be watched. You will want to call your vet in the morning to get an anti-diarrheal medication for him. Check to make sure he isn’t dehydrated, (if you pull his skin up, does it stay there? that’s a sign of dehydration and also if you can feel his gums and they are dry or sticky, that is a sign too). If he is you may need to take him to the vet right away. If not offer him plenty of water until you can get him in. You might also want to give him some H2O in his food or give him some boiled chicken and rice with his food

Pits are prone to mange, my Search and rescue pit suffered from it off and on for over 2 years. Along with the vet prescribed medication, i also got a food supplement to add to his food named PETS-ALIVE and it worked very well in helping him recover. I did not have to use long term and his skin has been great since then. (the link is listed below).

My Dog Has Demodectic Mange?

My 6 month old pit bull puppy has demodectic mange and the vet perscribed this cream and it didnt work then i used borax and peroxide mix and it seemed to work but she has a nest of them on her neck and its red and gets hot sometimes i thought they died because there was a red bump that had went away but now it seems to be coming back but her mange had cleared up you can still see bald spots but it has gotten alot better what should i do??? I dont have money to bring her to the vet and will the mange eventually clear up on its own as her amune system gets better??

The treatment for Demodex mange is not expensive at all. You could get some oral Ivermectin from your vet-just a few pennies a day, and cure your dog.
The alternative is a dog dying of severe mange. I would suggest you spend the few $$ and get the dog the medical attention she needs.

When a cat has mange what are the symptoms ?

The hair will fall out over an area and the skin may or may not look red. It’s tiny mites under the skin that cause it, and it’s treatable. One of our guys had that happen and we used the cream the vet gave us to help it heal up.

Sometimes it gets a crusty scab on it if the cat keeps licking at the area, making the skin raw there, it can itch them enough that they don’t want to stop cleaning it.

If the mange isn’t treated it could spread, so being proactive and taking care of it soon as you get it identified is the best way to go. It’s definately treatable.
