When a cat has mange what are the symptoms ?
The hair will fall out over an area and the skin may or may not look red. It’s tiny mites under the skin that cause it, and it’s treatable. One of our guys had that happen and we used the cream the vet gave us to help it heal up.
Sometimes it gets a crusty scab on it if the cat keeps licking at the area, making the skin raw there, it can itch them enough that they don’t want to stop cleaning it.
If the mange isn’t treated it could spread, so being proactive and taking care of it soon as you get it identified is the best way to go. It’s definately treatable.

I think my 2 large dogs have mange and …?
given their size and how much dip it would take to bathe them 2 times a month for 2-3 months I will not be able to afford the dip. Anyone have any home remedies that are SAFE but effective ?? I would appreciate any ideas.
There are no effective home remedies for mange. It’s problematic enough treating it successfully with medications prescribed by a vet. Do you even know which type of mange they have? If not, you need to find out as dips and various medications won’t work for all types of mange. Talk to your vet. about a payment plan and explain your circumstances. Call rescue organizations in your area and see if they’ll give you some assistance with obtaining proper medical attention for your dogs.

is the dog skin infection Mange contagous to humans or other dogs?
my dog has it and just wondered if it is
Demodex mange is not contagious, Sarcoptic mange is contagious to other animals. Humans are not likely to catch it other than a mild rash. Normal hygiene is usually enough to prevent you from catching it.

Treating puppy for Sarcoptic mange.?
Hello, just found out that my puppy has Sarcoptic mange =( The doctor told me it very curable, and i shouldn’t worry. He gave me this dip that should clear it up within a few weeks. He told me to wash all his bedding in hot water, but is there anything I can do to treat the rest of the house, he’s an inside dog, hes a lil yorkie so there no way im going to stick him out side, and I have carpet and tile troughtout the house were he’s been. Will spraying Lysol Disinfectant kell these things? I forgot to ask the vet about that, and he failed to mention it. Please help if you can, thanks.
The Dip is called LymDyp, and he said that because its not so sevire, the dip should be enought, my pup has not lost hair from it, and i did get a few bumps on my arm from carrying him, but im not worried about that, the Doc told me it not posible to contract it, as its a k9 mite, and the mite just bite me because it though i was the host.
The parasites will die on their own in a couple of days without a host. You don’t need to worry about it. As long as your dog got good enough medicine that the mites can’t live on him for a few days, they will all die on their own.
Question about demodectic mange?
So, we took my pup to the vet today and found out she has demodectic mange. The vet prescribed Ivermectin, she starts out with a low dose and works up to a higher dose each day. The vet said I’ll start seeing results in about a week, but she said to come back in a month for another skin scraping because sometimes the DM will go away, but come back if not treated long enough. Is this true? Anybody have any experience with DM and Ivermectin?
yes,my dog had DM,she was treated with ivermectin:she is around50lbs,i think i had to start with a higher dose(1ml?)
and went down to 1/2 ml,for a good while:hmm 3months?
yes, do a skin scraping after a month or 6weeks of treatment!
dogs have demodex mites living in the hair follicles, but in a very minimal amount.the dogs own immune system takes care of these mites. Most likely, your puppy went through some stress or illness(that’s how demodex mites take over the body)

If a dog has Foxy Mange, is it contagious to other dogs please?
My daughters dog has Foxy Mange, my own dog is supposed to be staying with her next week I need to know if it is congtagious please
Just as in domestic canids, foxes are susceptible to more than one type of ‘mange.’ The two types most people mean would be either scabies (also known as sarcoptic mange) and Demodex.
You would have to know which type your daughter’s dog has in order to know if it’s contagious. ("Foxy" mange is not a real diagnosis…because again, foxes can get more than one type of mange.)
Demodectic mange is not contagious. It is caused by an inherited, genetic defect in a specific part of the immune system. (Dogs who have it should never be bred, even if they are treated and cleared up, but many poorly educated breeders keep doing it anyway…which is the main reason we have been unable to eradicate it as we should be able to do with proper genetic selection.)
Scabies IS highly contagious, but the mites that cause it are pretty species-specific. Sheep, humans, dogs, cats, etc. all have their own species of scabies mite, which will not cause disease in other species. (The mites can get on the skin and burrow/die, creating a temporary rash….but will not cause ‘mange’ in another species.) Dogs and foxes are closely related enough, however, that they can share the same species of scabies mite.
Summary: What you need to do is simply CALL your daughter’s DVM and ASK if what her dog has is contagious to yours or not, and if so, how to prevent it. If it is indeed scabies (which I suspect it is), Revolution is excellent at that. Your dog will need to have a current negative heartworm test before you can use it.
Note to Helen: The info you copied/pasted from your sources is mostly correct and very good information (cannot imagine WHY anyone gave you the thumbs-downs, unless they are just stupid!)….but some of the info about treatment is out of date. (Just FYI.) New and better treatments become available all the time, and Internet articles often don’t reflect the newest/best information available about that.

My friends on Twitter rushed into action and she will be going to a nice lady in California once she is healthy enough to travel.
