Should demodectic mange be treated immediately?

Thank you PekeGirl!
I suspect that my dog may have it since he’s been scratching heavily around one eye to the point where it’s scabby and hairless. I made an appointment with the vet and will be heading there tmrw, but I’ve been reading about how most cases of localized demodectic mange clear up on their own. I’ve also been reading about how the irritation could also be due to a food allergy. Anyone have any experience with this particular symptom (scabs around eye)?
he’s almost two and a shepherd mix…

i work at a shelter and I see tons of dogs that come in with demodex. localized mange does seems to clear up easily but when it starts to scab, it does need to be treated. there is actually a flea medicine that your vet can give you that is also used for this type of mange. It’s called promeris. ask your vet about it, because it is a great product. we use it on every cat and dog we get in. hope that helps!

Is mange in cats treated thesame as in dogs? is there a home remedy?

I donot have much money (& I am not asking for any!)
He is maybe 1month couple weeks old,&has been Licking non stop, his legs and stomach are hairless and flaky from the constant lick. My Vet visit it tomarrow, I do hope its cheap for I only have the consult money but if the treament is over $50.00 dollars We should be fine.

mange in cats is extremely rare, it’s doubtful to be that. (it starts at the ears or top of the head most of the time.) maybe allergies? many cats have them (to all sorts of things from flea bites to food ingredients to pollens) and itchiness & licking/fur pulling are common symptoms of it.

if it looks like it be an expensive treatment once the vet diagnosis something, don’t be too shy to ask if there is anything that can be done at home or if there is a human equivalent instead. he wants your kitty to get better too and will do what he can to help you do that, esp if a cheaper treatment is available.

Is there a safe mange treatment for a kitten?

This a stray that has shown up in our yard. I’m concerned it will infect our indoor/outdoor kitty, if it doesn’t get treatment right away.

Mange is caused by miscroscopic mites. Only a vet can determine if the kitten actually has mange and only a vet should treat it.

An unkempt, mangy-looking coat can be caused by a number of things. No sense and maybe harmful to treat a cat yourself for something that is not there.

Home Remedies for Mange that You Can Try at Your Home

Mange is a condition which refers to the skin problems caused by the mites in animals like dogs, cats, goats etc. This term defines the scabies or sarcastic skin problems in these animals. These are found in puppies especially as they get transferred from their mothers. The effects rendered by these mites are skin irritation, thickening and itching. Humans can also get infected by these but since these mites cannot manifest in human skin so it gets cured by three weeks time.

Cure for Mange

In order to cure this, Vermectin injections for one month on weekly basis is required. But there are certain breeds of dogs that cannot bear this injection so Lyme Sulfur or Parasite are recommended. Dandruff and Cortisone also relives from the itching. In the traditional procedure it includes dips of Mitaban which is an insecticide and this is to be used every week or two, preceded by a hair clipping and Benzoyl peroxide shampoo for clearing skin and cleaning the mites in the infected area. This cure will have a side effect that will include drowsiness, vomiting, diarrhoea. This medicine should not be given to small dogs or very young puppies. When gradually these skin scrapings are slowing twice in a row, the dip and bath regimen is stopped, and the dog is rechecked in one month.

Home Remedies for Mange

Among the home remedies a very good nutrition, control of other parasites such as worms and maintaining with the vaccinations are important aspect in order to prevent this. The veterinarian thus recommends homeopathy, fasting, and various vitamins and minerals, along with application of fresh lemon juice to the affected area. These can be treated at home with an oil preparation in the ears.

Cleaning the animals regularly with soaps and shampoos will reduce the chances of infection. Brushing and baths will not only reduce but help in removing scaly skin and scabs caused by mange and will keep them mange-free. Incase the animal is infected with mange mites then thoroughly washing the bedding or other sleeping areas is primarily important. But other treatment should not be tried at home until you take your dog to the vet. These at home can only be best treated well with utmost cleanliness. These diseases are not so harmful but if they are not treated at the right time then it will create tremendous infection which can be very dangerous.

Identifying And Treating Mange In Dogs.

Demodex mange is a skin complaint in dogs that's due to them having a reaction to small parasitic mites. Does your dog have mange? Read on and discover a home cure for dog mange. But in some young puppies this does not occur and the mites cause redness, scaly inflamed skin and alopecia. You can see 1 or 2 express areas of irritation round his eyes and nose. Mange typically starts off as a local problem on the young dog’s face. Sadly only about twenty percent of the mites are on the surface of the skin meaning there's an eight out of ten probability that the dumping will not show any mites.

Generally mange first shows itself as baldness especially on the belly, haunches, ears and face. Treatment for mange The best treatment is prevention and that suggests using products like Frontline and Advantix which act as mite repellents. Bald patches of skin with zit like bumps are also common with mange. This can occur when the animal is continually scratching to get shot of the mites. Most all animals with mange will get the secondary bacterial infection.

Alopecia also will be a conspicuous factor for Mange. At last your dog will die if no treatment has been provided they can die of a secondary bacterial infection, dehydration, or merely pure exhaustion. A good medicated shampoo will achieve success in treating this mild case of mange. Sarcoptic is another sort of mange which is a little more major, but simple to treat if diagnosed in time. So a large amount of caution should be used when dealing with and handling a dog which has been diagnosed as having this sort of mange. The dog will have uncontrollable itching and patchy hair loss. Use more than one application of petrol jelly if obligatory. Not merely will this kill the mites by suffocating them, it may also supply a soothing touch to your dog’s sore skin. Since dog mange can instantly become quite major, for most satisfactory results, it is important to begin to use homemade treatments as fast as you notice the start of a difficulty.
