Curing a cat of mange?
We’ve been feeding a mangy stray and I don’t want it to infect my dog or child (I’ve read it can spread from the cat). I know that the medicine used to treat cat mange, Ivermectin, is the same medicine used in HeartGard which is used to treat heartworms in dogs. So can I just give this medicine to the kitty? Any advice is appreciated.
DO NOT give dog Heartgard to a cat. Ivermectin needs to be injected to treat mange. You can also do sulphur dips. Talk to a vet.

need help about maybe my cat getting mange!!?
okay i just rescued a dog from a animal shelter friday. i gave her a bath the next mourning since it was late when we got home and then today i noticed she had red bumps and scabs all over her belly so i took her to a vet. he gave her a shot for itching and some pills for 2 weeks for allergys and i said so this isnt mange that maybe my cat can get??? and then he didnt say anything for a while then finally said he could take a skin craping but its hard to find mange in a skin scraping so then he left the room and came back and said she did look like she had mange (after he gave me the pills and powder for skin and deworming) and said that if it doesnt clear up in a few days to come back so i said lets just treat her for mange now which he said was $35 dipping and he refused!!! he just wants another examination fee. anyways my cat has FIV i love him with everything i have and i am freaking out that if he gets it he might die because when you have something like FIV or HIV the smallest thing can take your life right!?!?! what should i do give my cat a bath incase of? my washing machine just broke today so all of the stuff the dog has touched is sitting there and i caught my cat laying on it im balling here please dont be negative just to be, but someone please tell me the truth on what i should do so my cat doesnt get it. i now i know i shouldnt have gotten a dog but i thought i was saving her life and i cant just go shove her back in the hole she came from but i am keeping her isolated from my cat. i read on a site cats cant get it from a dog unless its touching it frequntly but my cat is a big baby and last night curled up on the couch with me and the new dog and im so scared. i’ve done so good keeping my cat healthy for so long with this fiv and now this. im so scared. he litterly is my child. what should i do for him to stop it now!?!? btw right before i left the vets boxer(dog) came out and was sniffing my dog and the vet grabbed him by the collar and locked him in a room away from my dog, like hello he even thinks she has mange but wont treat her for it?!?! wtf!!!!! does he not understand i dont want my cats to get it i told him like 5 times and felt like an idiot. he was so unfriendly too and just picked my dog up under her arm and carried her with one of his arms while she wiggled.
i don;t have an answer but i just want to say sorry

can selsun blue be a safe way to cure cat mange?
i heard it has a sulfur base and isnt that what kills the mites?
While the Notoedres mite can be killed with many of the same products used to treat dogs with scabies, most of them are NOT safe to use in a cat. Cats are much more sensitive to some of the insecticides that are safe to use in the dog. The current recommended treatment for cats is to clip all long hair and then bathe the cat with a gentle cleansing shampoo. After the shampoo, a 2 to 3% lime sulfur dip (Lymdip) is applied to the entire surface of the cat. Some cats may require a sedative to be properly bathed and treated. This is repeated every seven days until the condition resolves and may require 6 to 8 weeks of treatment.
Some veterinarians have successfully used an amitraz dip to cure this disease, but this is an off-label use of this product and may make some cats sick. Recently, ivermectin has also been used successfully, much as it has been for sarcoptic mange in dogs. Ivermectin is not approved for use in cats, but under close veterinary care, it may provide a viable form of treatment. If there are multiple cats in the household, it is often recommended that all cats in the household be treated because they may be harboring the mites.
Unlike allergies, the intense scratching caused by Notoedres responds poorly to steroids.
My dog has mange can my cat catch it?
What are some possible treatments for cat mange as my vet is on holidays for another week (we got the dog in before she went away) and I’m not even sure if its mange someone else mentioned to me it might be allergies?
There are two types of dog mange and they are caused by mites. So it is certainly conceivable that the mites could be transferred to a cat from a dog. I think cat fleas stay with cats and dog fleas with dogs and I am not at all sure of that.
Allergies can also cause hair loss and poor coat so it is good you will have the vet look into the problem next week.
cat mange treatment?
my cat has mange but i dont know how to treat it because she cant take any antibiotics or anti inflammatories (shes highly allergic).. shes been to the vet many times but he doesnt know what to give her because she needs a natural remedy, does anyone have any home remedies? thanks
is putting alcohol on her a bad idea? i just thing it would kill the mites but i dont know if its safe
I have just had a terrible mange problem with a new kitten. This is what the vet did: shot of Ivermectin (not a steroidal or anti-inflammitory) and a dose of selamectin (Revolution)
applied topically as directed.
Neither of these should cause a reaction in you cat, but do let the vet know about the allergies.
In two days you should see improvement.
DO NOT USE ALCOHOL. It will sting and your cat won’t let you handle her/him again.
In fact, there isn’t much else you can do except what I have listed above. Dips are toxic to cats. SEE YOUR VET.
can i purchase cat mange treatment on the internet?
Mange is not as common in cats as it is in dogs. Both are caused by a parasitic mite that lives in the skin and eats the hair follicles.
Have you had a positive diagnosis of mange by a vet? If so, and your cat was prescribed a particular medication, yes, you may be able to find it cheaper on the internet. But you will most likely need a prescription. Your vet may match the price you find on the internet. This would be the safer route to go..you will know for sure you have the right medicine with the correct dosing instructions.
Ivermectin is one of the more commonly used medications for dogs. It can be used for kitties, but the doses have to be strictly controlled. Please see the link below.
Any skin problems can be uncomfortable at the least. I hope you find what will make your kitty feel better.
Purrs to you and kitty.
