My 6 month old labradoodle has demodectic mange. She’s gotten 1 mitaban dip so far, and her next appointment
is April 14th. I’ve been researching on mitaban dips, and a lot of sites say that they don’t work, or that they’re toxic. My pup’s about 20 lbs, and I adopted her in very poor conditions. Are there any alternatives?
There’s this one site that helps cure demodectic mange, but I’m not sure if it’s legitimate or not. Has anyone tried it before?

The dips are pretty expensive each time I go in, and they say she needs maybe 4-6 of them before she’s cured. I’m not sure if it’s worth it if it’s not a guarantee success, or if it will make her worse.
Thanks in advance for your help.
here are some pictures of her.

Mitaban dips DO work (trust me!) and they are non-toxic. If Mitaban dips were toxic vet offices would refuse to use them. We are there to help the animal, not poison it.
I checked out the product in the link you provided. Personally, I have never heard of it before now. If I were you, I would leave her treatment in the hands of your veterinarian. God forbid if she ever had a reaction or what not… they are there!
ADD: Betta has a wonderful point(!!)… Ivermectin *can* and has been used to help treat mange. The one “downside” we have seen at our hospital is the use of an ivermectin (or Interceptor, which is similar to an ivermectin) takes A LOT longer then the dip for results, however, you may feel more comfortable going that route. It is also quite a bit more pricey!
ADD2: She is oh-so cute!!! Her face is absolutely precious! I wish her a very quick recovery! Good for you for adopting!
We found out that Bear our toy chihuahua has demodex mange due to bad blood line any suggestions?
We found out that Bear our toy chihuahua has demodex mange due to bad blood line, but now I have this baby and we used a dip the vet gave us and it nearly killed him and cost us 1000.00 at the emergency vet hospital… They say his immune system is compromised so any ideas on how I can boost it? Vitamins? etc…and only serious answers PLEASE! My bear depends on it!
When researching Mitaban we found out that it should not be used on small breeds, also the vet used a lyme dip…We aren’t mad at the vet we just need tips on trying to boost his immune system…
Dips are very outdated these days and contain very harmfull ingredients. A safe treatment is Ivermectin (oral or injectable). It also treats other internal parisites. Small dogs are easily disturbed by treatments. Make sure he is well hydrated and be aware of his activity level; they can become hypoglycemic. Call a vet with concearns.

I have a 4 month old male shih tzu, and he has mange. are lyme dips too harsh for him?
lyme dips are to harsh for him and u! There are 2 types of mange- the first one is genetic something inhereitary from mom and dad. the 2nd one is called sarcoptic mange- this is one they get from other dogs . this type of mange is also 1 that people can get it is called scapies. u will need to see ur local vet. to get a dose on something called ivermetic for the first type ( he will have to be heartworm tested before treatment) for the 2nd type much easier treatment apply some revolution ( get a vet) it kills mange, earmites and fleas u will have to apply it every 2 weeks til cured.
.
dips are dangerous to u both
Bubbles
Update 6-4-10: Bubbles has one more Mitaban dip the week of June 7 and then should finally be ready for adoption!! Bubbles is a super-sweet and affectionate 1 year-old Bulldog mix female who came to Canine Lifeline from a local dog pound so that she could get the medical attention that she needed. She has demodectic mange which makes her skin very pink, raw, and painfully itchy. Her photo was taken the day we took her from the dog pound directly to the vet clinic. Treatment requires dips and oral medication to keep it under control. Bubbles is in the midst of her treatment and will be ready for adoption once her skin issues have been resolved and she has been spayed. Bubbles is housetrained, crate-trained, and a very quiet, well-behaved girl. She likes other dogs and is starting to play with them a little now that she’s feeling a little better. She’s just a real joy to be around! Demodectic mange is likely be a chronic condition for Bubbles so someone who’s willing and able to deal with the cost, time, and effort involved in managing this disease is what she needs in the long-term. Please email Barb at bwible@roadrunner.com if you’d like more information about Bubbles.

Has anyone ‘s dog experienced a problem with amitraz dip? it treats demodex mange?
The reason I asked is cause my vet told me to do this to my little jack russel mix (7 month old) and it almost killed him!!!!!! He has spent 2 days with an IV. Now it looks like he will make it but he still has the mange. thanks!!!!
Amitraz is the only truly “approved” treatment for demodex. That said, there is a dose of Ivermectin (cheap) that vets use and also large doses of interceptor (costly, maybe safer). As long as the dog is over 4 months old and is over about 15-20 lb I will use amitraz. Ivermectin has risks of side effects too. I have never personally seen a reaction to amitraz, to answer your question, but the potential is there. Anything you use will be an insecticide.
BTW, you don’t need to treat localized lesions of demodex. Only treat if it goes generalized, and is affecting a large part of the body or the whole body. Localized goes away by itself.
will zema dip kill the mange?
my cockerspaniel has the mange and the vet bill will kill me
What is zema dip? I would not use it unless directed under a care of a veterinarian. There is two types of mange one is called demodectic mange which is non contagious, does not itch and is believed to be cause by an immune disorder. This is usually treated with a dip called Mitaban or Amitraz. This dip can be toxic to the dog if used incorrectly. The other type of mange is called sarcoptic mange (scabies) which is contagious and causes the dog to itch. This is treated with ivermection and the dog may need an antihistamine to help alleviate the itching as well as antibiotics to help with potential skin infections. In some case if the scabies is really bad then a dip may be needed as well. Don’t use motor oil that can kill the dog.

i found a dashund dog yesterday with terrible looking mange.?
i dipped her and the dip said to repeat in 3 weeks if necessary. i am wondering if she is still contageous or if she would be ok to be in my hard now where our other dogs are.??i dont want to spread the mange around..the dip was for the sartoptic kind of mange which is the most common and sounds like hers. thanks
When I found my cat with mainge he did not spread it to my other pets. I gave him medication from the vet (pills) and he was fine. I did not treat the other pets like my vet wanted me to. (It would have been too expensive). He had another episode a couple of months later, I did the same and he was fine for after that. The other pets never got it. Ask you vet to make sure.
Good luck.

does any one know anything about mange mites. or anyone ever used a paramite dip?
my dog is also breed and he said that it might cause her to abort? can someone please help me. i would like to know if this has happened to your doggie?
There are other options besides dips… what type of mange was it? E-mail me and I’ll help you the best I can.
Ivermectin can be used to treat mange mites… talk with your vet about using it as a topical or as an oral dosing… while small doses of ivermectin orally are generally safe for a pregnant dog, it can cause problems, and treating mites with it requires daily use… as a topical it is much safer, but please don’t use it without discussing how to apply it, how much to apply, and any possible risks with your vet. Also discuss with him using it orally, I’m not 100% on toxicity concerns of daily use in pregnant dogs.
